Picking the Perfect Pumpkin from the Pumpkin Patch

After I got off of work, Nils' parents and sister, Shaylee and Nils and myself all went to Lakes Park to the pumpkin patch to pick out a pumpkin for Shaylee to paint. I liked how throughout the entire park, they kept the Halloween theme with some cute decorations. I kidnapped some really cute photos taken my mother in-law, Linnea, of the various decorations.

Normally we would have gotten a pumpkin to carve but this year, we thought it would be nice to give Shaylee the opportunity to get in the action (since she is still to little to carve) and keep things moderately mess-free (compared to pumpkin guts everywhere, yes, paint is considered moderately mess-free!).

At Lakes Park, Shaylee had to "test" several pumpkins before finding the perfect one. She wanted one that was light enough for her to hold without being too big. Nils eventually found one that was not only light enough for Shaylee's standards but also was nicely shaped.

While we were there, we took a hay ride (small flatbed pulled by a quite powerful four-wheeler) and enjoyed the Florida sunset. We may not have leaves that change color but we are never short of some awe-inspiring sunsets.
