Positive OPK!

My first positive OPK test! Ovulation Prediction Kits (OPKs) are useful to help you find your fertile time. They work by measuring the presence of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) in the urine. A surge of LH is sent to the ovary causing the ovary to produce enzymes which in turn cause the dominant follicle to rupture and release an egg into the fallopian tube, called ovulation. Ovulation is expected to occur within 24 hours of the surge of LH. An OPK is therefore expected to be positive the day before you ovulate although there are also cases where it could take about 48 hours. That means that I could ovulate tomorrow! This may seem like a silly thing to get excited about but I have heard stories where women coming off of birth control have crazy, out of whack cycles and some do not ovulate at all for a couple cycles. Everyone who knows me knows that I am just too impatient to wait any longer! LOL!
